Grand Canyon Bagel Burger – review

This is a quick review of the burgers we made at the campsite last night. It seems right to review our burgers as well as the ones that we buy.

The “restaurant”:

What can I say, this one beats the rest. We dined by an open wood fire in a huge forest next to the biggest canyon in the world. Service was good, if a little “hands on” in the burger making process :D

Presentation:

No plates, no wrapping, a bagel with burgers in my hands. Could with more effort in the presentation, but that requires washing up and as washing up requires heating up water on a stove, it can be forgiven.

The burger:

The burger consisted of an “everything” bagel, which had sunflower seeds in the dough and  sesame and poppy seeds on top, containing two big-ass burgers and lashings of BBQ sauce (swiped from Disney World). By my own standards this burger was very meat orientated, lacking any relish or salad, so is not the balanced burger that I seek in the pursuit of perfection. However, the burgers were perfectly cooked by G0N on a wood fire so had great taste and a solid bite to the meat. The BBQ sauce makes a better accompaniment than tomato ketchup as it adds the zing that is otherwise lacking. The bagel made the best bun yet. The burger companies need to take note of this. The bagel  kept it's shape and firmness despite the BBQ sauce and juices from the burgers, whereas the chain bought burger buns simply fall apart. If the Hobnob is the Marine of the biscuit world, the bagel is the Marine of the bread world. The burger was satisfyingly big and heavy in the hand and almost a stretch to actually eat it. In short, the bagel burger was a success, great firm texture and meaty taste. A truly manly burger, could do with some salad though.

In a word: Manly
