04/05/10 continued

After the last post we headed into town and saw the Sirens of TI show at Treasure Island. It is this bizarre show that happens on two large pirate ship replicas on a long pond next to the road at TI. Apparently this used to have more family friendly pirate themed entertainment. Now however, it has the standard raunchy Vegas stuff. It seems to be an ongoing theme at these casinos to have very suggestive shows, I guess it goes nicely with the girlsgirlsgirls guys on the streets. This Sirens of TI show was really stupid, I'm sure it was incredibly hight budget, but the story was terrible and the voice acting was done on the soundtrack and the actors just mimed over it. This meant that the actors that were “speaking” had to overemphasise the fact they were doing so, which made it seem so cheesy, a bit like Disneyland, but in lingerie. The fireworks and effects were good though. They had explosions done with gas fireballs, from which you could actually feel the immense heat even 30m away.

After the TI we say the fountains again and popped into a few more casinos before heading back for some sleep. In conclusion, Vegas is strange, almost cheap and tacky like Southend but incredibly expensive and well done. The “Sin City” nickname seems about right I guess from the amount of drinking, gambling, lewd looking shows, guys offering “to order”girls and strip club tickets (even at 10 in the morning!)... I don't like the obvious exploitation of people that goes on in the name of money, but a real experience nevertheless.
