18/04/10

5:50pm

Well... we got our first nights sleep at a Wal-Mart. It was fine, shame they keep their light on all night though. We had some nice bagels for breakfast before heading off into the world. We tried to do a couple of caches on route to the station, but failed. One was in a park in an estate and we couldn't find a way in,the other was gone :(.

We took the metro into Washington DC. London needs to take some tips from this system, it's awesome! Amazingly clean and comfortable. The stations are huge. The standard stop must be as wide as a football pitch but entirely underground. They look cool too, subtly lit and they have these red lights on the floor that come on when a train is coming. The guy on the loudspeaker sounds like Cleavland too :) The only downside is that we were asked by a random if we were Jahova's Witnesses! Seriously. WTF.

The actual city is very impressive, but a bit odd. Of course the main attractions: The White house, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, The Capitol, Smithsonian Museums... are amazing. The rest of the town that we saw was a bit stale, lots of government buildings, amazingly impressive buildings but it lacked the soul and the ridiculous energy that New York had. There happened to be an “earth day” thing going on, so we had a look round. There were lots of “save our planet” things, but then NASA who turned up and gave away free stuff which had nothing really to do with geing green. Funnily enough, people were more excited by their stand than anyone elses.

We are now back on the road heading south once more. Not sure where we will end up tonight. We'll see :)

19/04/10 – 15:00 reporting

We hit North Carolina and headed towards Goldsboro. A town with my name ish. Apparently it used to have the ugh, but was shortened for some reason. When we turned up it was pretty late, but we had a drive round. TBH not all that much there. We picked up some petrol and headed on our way.

Our night stop was another Wal-mart just outside of Jacksonville NC. We turned up at around 1am, so went straight to bed.
