Whataburger Review

Today (27th of April) we stopped for lunch at a Whataburger, I had never heard of it either, but they are common round here. I had a “Whataburger” with jalapeños, bacon and cheese.

The restaurant:

The restaurant was nice and clean with tables set around in a normal diner style. We were greeted with a friendly howdy from the girl at the counter, so far so good. Unfortunately no wifi, but that wasn’t too much of a problem as we were just there for a quick lunch so we could get on the road again. The staff were friendly, getting my order right this time and I got a free large drink with my burger. Once you order they even bring the food over to you with a tray of sauces, napkins etc. A nice touch for a fast food joint. The other clientele of the restaurant was fairly stereotypical Texan; shirts, cowboy hats etc. Locals one would assume. Not really a plus point for the restaurant, but I liked it.

Presentation:

The burger came on a tray, neatly wrapped in plain yellow grease proof paper. Not overly complicated but the presentation was fine, looking like it was wrapped with care. The burger itself looked alright once it came out of the wrapper. Due to the large salad content it had shifted a bit whilst being unwrapped, fine, but not picture perfect as if it was crafted on a plate for you.

The Burger:

The burger itself was a quarterpounder with bacon, cheese, jalapeños and lots of salad in a plain white bun. The texture was just right: the burger was nice and moist, the salad was fresh so moist and crispy, the bacon was nice and crisp. So the burger had a satisfying bite whilst staying good and moist. The taste was really good; a nice balance between meat and salad with a hearty zing from the jalapenos. The only down side was that the moisture made the bread go a bit mushy towards the end. All in all a great, well balanced burger but would have benefitted from a denser bun to hold it all together better.

In a word: Balanced
