20/04/10

After a pretty hefty couple of days of driving we decided to take the day to relax. We headed towards Cape Canaveral as there are beaches and rockets there :). The weather was really hot and sunny, perfect for the beach. Just down from the Cape Canaveral we found “Cocoa Beach”, the main drag of the town was fairly plain and ordinary; a large boulevard with large shops and hotels along the sides. The beach was really nice though. There was a pier with bars etc and sandy beaches as far as the eye could see. In the distance you could make out the launch pad for the space centre. We spend most of the afternoon swimming and playing catch with a baseball and American football. We found out that we aren’t great at American sports; it hurt to catch the baseball (for me at least) and it is quite tricky to get a nice tight spiral on a full size American football. I’m sure we’ll get better with practice.

On the way back towards Orlando from the beach, we popped in on the space centre. Unfortunately the museum was closed by then, but we got to see rockets :). In the water near the space centre I even saw a crocodile!

We spent the evening chilling in a Starbucks as they have wifi. They actually do pretty good tea too. A week is far too long without tea. Coffee is nice, Mountain Dew is great, but neither compare to a good cup of tea.
When we parked up for the night a pretty big storm was rolling over. The lightning was pretty epic. The van even had a small leak in that much rain. Fortunately we made a solution out of kitchen towels and gaffer tape :)
