07/06/10

We had spotted a nice area of caches in Rhode Island at McDonalds the evening before and decided to try for my 1000th cache. The caching area itself was near Bristol along the sea front, along a cycle path south from Provenance RI. This will probably be quite a short entry again, if you want a cache by cache account check out our cache logs for the day :). The area was positively teeming with cachers. We had done 3 when we met our first caching couple who we bumped into a few times over the following few caches. One cache was in a field opposite a row of houses and a guy called out to us about the cache. We got talking to him and it turned out that him and his son have been caching since the start of geocaching almost 10 years ago and this cache was one of the oldest in the country. He even gave us scout style patches saying “leave no trace – BSA guide”. He was even at the millennium wheel in London for the scouts anniversary recently. Later on in the day an older boy on a bike rode up to us and asked “how many have you found today?”. Turns out we had been doing a load of his caches. Cachers everywhere I tells ya, all of whom were really nice and it was great to meet them out in the field.

In the day we got 35 caches, a pretty damn good number ordinarily, however after our California caching seems rather poor. I didn't actually know how many I needed to get the thousand I had guessed 31. I only found out at McDonalds when we got some wifi so didn't even celebrate. But I did it! 1000 caches!!!!!11!!!11one! It is great to have hit that historic milestone over here, it goes well with R_see's thousandth in Australia. Funnily enough, I had was only expecting to hit this milestone around September, so it looks like I'm going to need a new target :)
