Day 1

The flight didn't seem that long and I think I got a couple of hours sleep. Miley of course helped the time fly by. We had some kind of lamb and scrambled egg brunch towards the beginning and a coronation chicken sandwich as we were coming into land.

The worst part about going through security in America was the queue but once that was out the way, everything was plain sailing.

After a train ride we were on the street of our hostel for the next couple of day. We knew the house number but walked past it twice not quite convinced that it was the right place. After double checking the details we rang the doorbell to find that we were indeed in the right place but it looked nothing like a hostel. The hostel is fairly basic, a dorm room with bunks, a kitchen and a shower. There is free wifi though which is nice and even a pc which I had to fix to work on the network.

We ditched our bags and took the subway back into town. We basically had a stroll around a fairly large chunk of the city trying to work out how the road system etc worked. To keep us going we had a slice of pizza each as they looked tasty going past. We took in some of the sites like Macy's, Time Square and the Grand Central Station which was quite grand. We visited the Empire State Building but were pounced upon by tour guides so decided to leave climbing it until another day. We also managed to stumble across Madison Square Gardens by accident so we must be getting good at navigating.

Eventually we decided to call it a day and head back to the hostel. The train journey seemed long combined with the very long day. Jet lag is definitely setting in with the five hour time difference. We grabbed a couple of supplies from a grocery store near the hostel and I'm now looking forward to testing out the bed.
